Yoga teachers are a dime a dozen. To be an effective teacher, one must consider the implications of each pose when it comes to the anatomical and physiological capabilities and limitations of the student.
Truth is that not all teacher certifications emphasize anatomy and physiology. In fact, most yoga teachers polled stated that they lack anatomy and physiology knowledge, which leaves them feeling incompetent. Then there are those who teach out of ignorance, focusing on the "poses" and physical aspects of the practice without the in depth knowledge about potential risks of injury.
In this episode of the Functional Yoga Medicine Show, Dr. Connie discusses the importance of conscientious teaching to prevent injury for students and to preserve YOGA as a HEALING practice.
